Illustrator Best in Conference and Slideshow Guidelines

Deadline to Participate: July 13, 2019

(or until we reach our maximum)

It is FREE to submit your digital portfolio for our Oktoberfest 2019 illustrator Best in Conference contest, but you must follow all guidelines below to participate.

Note:  There is a cost to submit your website for evaluation as a separate critique add-on. You do NOT have to get a critique to participate in the Best in Conference contest.

Instead of physical portfolios, we are going digital this year! Illustrators who have registered for the conference are welcome to upload up to ten of their best images to be judged for the Best in Conference judging by Saturday, July 13th, 2019, or until our maximum number of 50 entrants has been met (whichever comes first).

Prize: Members of our faculty, as well as offsite critiquers, will be reviewing the digital portfolios in advance of the conference and selecting Best in Conference. Winner will be announced at the end of the conference and receive a $200 Dick Blick gift certificate.

Qualification for Entry: Only those who have not taken first place in Best in Conference at the SCBWI Oktoberfest in the past will be eligible to participate in the judging. If you have won second or third place in the past, you are eligible to participate.

You will not need to be present in order to win, but you must be a paid attendee. All images must be solely the work of the illustrator submitting them.

Requirements for Digital Portfolios: If you wish to participate in the Best in Conference illustration judging and slideshow, please contact Julie Bayless, the Regional Illustrator Coordinator: Julie Bayless. She will send you a Dropbox link to a folder where you can upload your (up to) 10 images, using the naming convention below.

All images should be jpgs at 150 dpi. The file size per image should not exceed 1 Megabyte.

Slideshow: Choose one image from your set of 10 that will be displayed during the conference as part of a slideshow. The slideshow image should have the file name: “[Last Name]_[First Name]_SlideShow.jpg”
*Note: Your slide show image must include your name or portfolio website url somewhere on the image.

The other images (up to an additional 9) must have file names that begin “[Last Name]_[First Name]_[#].jpg” All ten images will be evaluated during the judging process.

Here is an example of how the (up to) ten file names in your folder should read:

Sorry, there will be no place to display book dummies at this year’s conference. However, we will have a Free Stuff Table for business cards and postcards.

Note:You only need to fill out an Illustrator Survey if you have registered for a paid Illustrator Website Critique. Slideshow/Best in Conference participants do not need to submit one.

For questions, please contact Julie Bayless.

Program subject to change without notice.
