11-12:30 Our Holiday Kick Off Begins!

Meet your new RAs, Shells and Lisa, and your dedicated volunteer team. Learn what’s in store for a fantastic 2019. Join us in honoring our very own regional member, Darcey Rosenblatt, winner of the Crystal Kite Award, for her middle-grade book, LOST BOYS.
All this merriment is followed by festive food, drink, and mingling. No potluck this year – just bring your merry selves. Guests are welcome. Registration for this FREE event is required.

12:30-1:15  The Debutante Ball
Now officially an annual tradition! Meet some of this year’s first-time debut members (published between 1/1/18 – 12/31/18) from our region, SF NORTH & EAST BAY. The debutantes will each read a passage from their brand-new books. Help us celebrate their amazing accomplishments, followed by literary cake.
SCBWI Member Volunteer Ilona Bray will be your official Debutante Ball Queen.

1:30-2:30  Revealing Our Surprise Guest!

You won’t want to miss 2015 Voice star Lyndsey Elm share the qualities and skills it takes to be successful in the music industry–a business that’s as hard to break into as publishing. You can expect to be entertained by her wisdom and music.

Announcing the Holiday Book Drive

During the SCBWI North & East Bay Region’s Holiday Extravaganza, we will collect NEW books to donate to children in foster care. This year, all books (picture books, chapter books, middle grade, young adult) appropriate for children under the age of 18 will be given to SCBWI member Patricia Duncan Hall for Contra Costa County Employment and Human Services Department for distribution. Last year, about 1,085 children in Contra Costa County were in foster care.

Please do not donate used children’s books or adult books. Autographed books are great if they only have the author’s or illustrator’s name.
