"BUILDING CHARACTER"

Breathe life into characters—from protagonist to minor players. The same techniques that actors use to prepare for a role can be adapted to intensify emotion and enhance authenticity on the page. Character interviews and other brainstorming activities will initiate creative thought and foster unexpected insight. These and other tools can be used at any point in the process—from preplanning to final revision.

Katherine Longshore is the author of Gilt, Tarnish and Brazen, a series of companion novels set in the court of Henry VIII and Manor of Secrets, the Downtonesque story of an unusual friendship in Edwardian England. A former actress and world traveler, Katherine is always looking for ways to bring what she’s learned to the page.
