About Our Speakers:
Natasha Yim, Author
Natasha Yim is the author of 8 picture books — 2 nonfiction, and 6 fiction. Her book Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas (Charlesbridge Publishing, 2014) was a Junior Library Guild and Scholastic Book Club selection as well as a 2017 Illinois Monarch Reader’s Choice Award nominee. Luna’s Yum Yum Dim Sum was released by Charlesbridge Publishing as part of their Storytelling Math series in December 2020. Natasha has also written two books for Disney Press, Mulan’s Lunar New Year (2018), and “Like Mother, Like Daughter” based on the Pixar movie, “Turning Red” (Spring 2022). Random House will be releasing her Little Golden Book “Lightyear” based on Disney/Pixar’s movie “Lightyear” (Summer, 2022). Natasha’s nonfiction articles have been published in the children’s magazines “Highlights for Children”, “Faces”, “Appleseeds”, and “Muse”. Her article, “The Elephant Queen” which appeared in the February 2012 issue of Faces, received a Letter of Merit in the 2013 SCBWI Magazine Merit Awards. Natasha grew up in Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong, and many of her stories are inspired by her cultural upbringing.

Ashok Banker, Author
Ashok Banker is an author and artist, with over 80 books published in over 70 countries and 32 languages. His debut picture book I am Brown (Lantana/Lerner, 2020) is a Book Trust Great Books selection, winner of the Bank Street College Best Children’s Book of the Year, The Guardian Best Books, has sold out four printings, and is translated into Dutch and Norwegian. His middle grade series Secret School Mysteries (Scholastic) are bestsellers in India. His forthcoming books include THE BLIND KING’S WRATH (HarperCollins, Recorded Books, S&S, 2022), A KISS AFTER DYING (Penguin/Michael Joseph, 2022), BROWN GIRLS RULE (Beaming Books, 2023), BROWN BOYS RULE (Beaming Books, 2024). He is currently working on his debut graphic novel and debut picture book as an author-illustrator.

Matt Forrest Esenwine, Author
Matt Forrest Esenwine had spent a good part of his life writing poetry, much of which was published in various national journals and anthologies like the Donald Hall tribute, Except for Love (Encircle, 2019). Then his debut picture book, Flashlight Night (Astra Young Readers, 2017), received a Kirkus starred review and was selected by the New York Public Library as one of the Best Books for Kids 2017! Matt now has a dozen books to his credit, including Once Upon Another Time (Beaming Books, 2021), co-authored with Charles “Father Goose” Ghigna, and I Am Today (POW! Kids Books, 2022). Meanwhile, his children’s poetry can be found in anthologies like The National Geographic Book of Nature Poetry (National Geographic Children’s Books, 2015) and Construction People (Wordsong, 2020), chosen by Kirkus as one of the Best Picture Books of the Year.
